All About Mrs. Scelia
Hello! My name is Mrs. Scelia. Just in case you are wondering how to pronounce my name, it is almost like saying "Steal ya" (as if you are taking something)- but substitute a K sound instead of the T!
This is a picture of me with my daughter, Kaylin!
This school year, 2019-2020 will mark my 14th year at Aiken School. I have taught both Kindergarten (1 year) and First Grade here at Aiken. I love teaching 1st grade because I enjoy being a part in your child's reading success! To me, first grade is magical! I love to see student's eyes light up when they read a book that was once tricky for them. I am a strong believer in goal setting and self-reflection on progress. You will see this as we discuss our GLOWS and GROWS in all areas.
GLOWS - things we are doing well
GROWS - what we will work on to grow in our learning
I am fortunate to be working at Aiken because of all of the dedicated teachers, staff, parents, and students. Everyone always strives to be their best each day.
When I'm not at school teaching, I'm learning! Yes...learning NEVER stops. I am lucky enough to have my Masters in Reading and Literacy from University of Saint Joseph. I have also taken online courses to better expand my knowledge in the classroom. I also love to READ READ READ!! Sometimes when I am reading a book I look up and realize that two hours have gone by.
I have my own little ones at home as well. My son's name is Troy and he was born January 20, 2011. He loves reading books, singing, and dancing. He is quite a little comedian. He is a WWE fanatic!! My daughter's name is Kaylin and she was born April 11, 2015. She loves dancing and making funny faces! I also have a dog named Toby. I have quite a few stories about that little rascal. Most of the stories I write are based on my own experiences, friends, and family!
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me! I feel so honored to be a part of your child's 1st grade experience. I've DREAMED of becoming a teacher since I was little! Thank you in advance for your support in your child's social, emotional, and academic growth throughout the year.
CHEERS TO A WONDERFUL AND MEMORABLE YEAR IN 1st GRADE!
