On Friday we learned about shapes and their attributes. Students worked with a partner to sort shapes and think of names for the categories they came up with. We learned that we use categories/attributes in the world all around us. Ask your child how different stores sort what they sell!

We have been focusing on finding the number before and the number after a given two digit nunber. In this activity children were asked to choose to square tiles and create a number of their choice. Then they were asked to use the 100 chart to find the number before and the number after and record that on their sheet. Today we created a class sort of literature and informational books from our September book order. In addition students were asked sort books independently into two categories- literature and information. Based on our discussion it seems that many students like informational books about animals. I will be sure to get some books like this from our book order with our bonus points! We have had such a fun time together! Right now we are focusing on our first units in math and reading. Please use the tabs on the left called "Common Core". Our Curriculum Night will be 9/17 from 6-630pm. Our book orders are due on 9/18! Please continue to check our blog. Soon it will replace our newsletter. I will also be posting pictures of our 1st graders hard at work! |
