In Unit 2 we will focus on retelling stories by sharing:
-Main Character
-Setting
-Major Events
You can help support what we are doing in the classroom by asking your child to identify these things in their books or experiences that they have had (ie. When we went pumpkin picking, what was the setting?)
Although Braidy was created to assist students with retelling stories, I also use him to help us organize our narrative writing. We focus on personal narratives (stories about real events in our lives) as well as fictional narratives (made up stories that may contain made up characters).
Each Monday we write our "Weekend News" to share about our personal experiences. We are sure to include the words First, Next, Then, Finally when we write to sequence our events.
As a class we are working on a fictional narrative about a runaway pumpkin! The story did not really happen, but we were inspired to write about it when we read the book Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins.
Families - We'd love to hear from you! Can you share a quickpersonal narrative (a story that has really happened to you) or a quick fictional narrative (a made up story) with us? Please be sure to include the words First, Next, Then, Finally. I commented on the post with an example.
We love our blog connection with our families and look forward to reading comments!
