Today we read the Scholastic News titled Searching for the Santa Maria. We learned that Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. The Santa Maria sunk 500 years ago and has never been found...until recently! An explorer named Barry Clifford thinks he may have found pieces of the Santa Maria! The information is coming home today. Please ask your child what was the same and what was different about these two explorers. The Venn Diagram is small, but it gives you an idea for what we did together in class.

Wow! We learned so much about Christopher Columbus! From my schema I was able to remember "In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue." I bet it is stored in your schema and you can use it in the future.

I also liked high lighting chunks and looking for rhyming words and under lining them.

Yes that was fun! I am always finding chinks in words. I always find them when I'm grocery shopping! :-)

Hi! I see that you used the Searching for the Santa Maria Scholastic News back in 2014. We used this issue in our class and Scholastic no longer has it in the archives. Would you happen to have the issue to scan and send to me??
